How it responds

The collar detects barking and escalates through its modes — starting at the gentlest setting and stepping up only if the barking continues. Most dogs respond at the first level within a few days. Sensitivity is adjustable, so a deep-chested dog and a small yappy one can both be set correctly.

Fit

The strap adjusts across a wide range and fits small, medium and large dogs. The contact points need to sit against the skin at the front of the throat — snug enough not to slide, loose enough to get two fingers under.

Being straight with you about this product

A bark collar is a tool, not a training programme. It works best on nuisance barking — at the postman, at nothing, at 6am. It does not fix barking that comes from separation anxiety or fear, and using it on an anxious dog usually makes the anxiety worse. If your dog barks when left alone, the collar is the wrong answer and a trainer is the right one.
